In May 2011, the European Commission launched the ‘Victims’ Package’ – a collection of proposals for better protection of the rights of victims in the European Union. The proposals reinforce existing national measures with EU-wide minimum standards, so that any victim can rely on the same basic level of rights regardless of their nationality and the location of the crime (within the EU).
