The Belgian national reporting body Myria publishes the report Bound by debt for the year 2022, which focuses on the smuggling and trafficking of Vietnamese nationals to and in Europe. The report provides an overview of the phenomenon trafficking and smuggling of Vietnamese nationals on an international level and focuses on the situation in Belgium by analysing case studies. The overview is complemented by two external studies on trafficking in Vietnamese citizens by the Centre of Expertise on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling (EMM) and the NGO Pacific Links. The report also looks at legal and policy developments to combat trafficking in human beings at the European and Belgian levels, highlights general current trends in trafficking and smuggling, and makes recommendations for better identification and more successful protection of Vietnamese trafficked persons.
