KOK study: The Rights of Trafficked Persons during Investigation Proceedings

New study by KOK e.V. finds that criminal prosecution and victim protection are closely linked

The study Rights of Trafficked Persons during Investigation Proceedings - A study into the relevance of the rights of affected individuals for law enforcement by the German NGO Network against Trafficking in Human Beings - KOK e.V. analyses the significance of the rights of trafficked persons for the prosecution of trafficking in human beings and exploitation.

The study has revealed that there is a clear link between the high proportion of terminations in cases of trafficking in human beings and the often insufficient enforcement of affected individuals’ rights. The existing weaknesses regarding the enforcement of rights and other statutory protection measures for these individuals represent a major challenge when it comes to carrying out investigations and pressing charges. This in turn means that effective law enforcement and access to rights are two closely connected aspects of anti-trafficking action.
