Minimum Standards for the Protection of Refugees and Migrants in Refugee Accomodation Centres

For the first time in 2016 these minimum standards were developed by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) and UNICEF in cooperation with various civil organisations to guarantee the protection of children, youth and women in refugee accommodations as well as to improve their access to education offers and psycho-social support.

The KOK is part of the initiative and was involved in the development.

In 2017 a new edition of the minimum standards was published. It is based on the current living conditions of residents of refugee accommodation and their feedback, as well as the experience of cooperation with authorities and persons responsible for refugee aid.

The aim of the Minimum Standards for the Protection of Refugees and Migrants in Refugee Accommodation Centres is to ensure the protection and support of all persons in these centres. All refugees and migrants are entitled to protection with regard to their life, health, personal development and human dignity.

An English version of the minimum standards is now available.
