A new report by the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Modern Forms of Slavery highlights contemporary forms of slavery, their causes and consequences. It focuses on people belonging to ethnic, linguistic and religious minorities, such as Uighurs, Yezidis and Roma. Due to discrimination and exclusion, they are very vulnerable to exploitative situations and are particularly affected by various manifestations of slavery, such as forced labour or child labour.

With regard to the protection of minorities, the report outlines some positive developments, for example in the area of legislative measures against discrimination and protection of migrant workers, and makes recommendations for constructive improvements that must be driven forward above all by states, companies, but also national and international organisations.
