The European Commission is currently working on a comprehensive ban on goods produced through forced labour. The proposal aims to promote decent work for all workers, whether they work in national markets or elsewhere in global supply chains. The ban would apply to both the import and export of all products produced through forced labour and would be based on internationally agreed definitions and standards. This emphasises the importance of close cooperation between partners around the world. The proposal must now be discussed and approved by the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union before it can enter into force. The instrument will start to apply 24 months after its entry into force.
