La Strada International - Statement on the International Day against Trafficking in Human Beings

On the occasion of the International Day against Trafficking in Human Beings on July 30, the European NGO platform against human trafficking La Strada International (LSI) published recommendations through which perspectives and experiences of trafficked persons in the fight against human trafficking can be better integrated into political concepts.

LSI emphasizes the important role of trafficked persons in developing effective policies and actions to prevent and combat trafficking. At the same time, however, trafficked persons' contributions are not always integrated in an appropriate and non-stigmatizing manner. Among the recommendations that have emerged from practice-based consultation work, for example, is the requirement to allow genuine participation and to manage expectations fairly with respect to trafficked persons.

La Strada International (LSI) is a European anti-trafficking NGO platform that works with a human rights perspective and includes 30 NGOs in 23 European countries that fight human trafficking. The main goal of the platform is to empower trafficked persons and vulnerable groups, improving their position by promoting their universal rights, including the right to choose to emigrate, the right to work abroad, and the right to be protected from violence and abuse. KOK e.V. is a member and active in the Europe-wide networking of LSI.
